Local youth sports: Shiner LL 8Us update
The Shiner Coach Pitch Softball and Baseball teams started their Special Tournaments last week and continuing through this week.
Coach Pitch Softball
The Shiner 8U/Coach Pitch softball team won one and lost two in the Special Tournament June 1-3.
Shiner 11, Lockhart 1
Shiner opened the tournament with an 11-1 win over Lockhart on June 1.
Shiner scored two runs in the second inning, outscored Lockhart 4-0 in the third inning and 5-1 in the fourth square.
Karsyn Castello led Shiner at the plate by going 2-for-3, home run, triple, two runs and five RBI. Olivia Shimek went 2-for-3 with two runs, one RBI; Audrey Raley got two hits, with one run; Scarlette Fishbeck was 2-for-1, run, RBI; Quinn Janak and Fallon Burlin both were 1-for-3 with one run each; Koryl Blaschke hit 1-for-2 with one run. Adaline Kieschnick was 1-for-2; Emily Gottwald hit 1-for-2 with one run; Jillian Caka scored one run and Brinley Bartos had one RBI.
Burlin pitched three innings with three hits with six strikeouts while Shimek worked one inning with one run on two hits and one strikeout.

Luling 7, Shiner 2
Shiner had five hits but was held to just a couple of runs in a 7-2 loss to host Luling on June 2.
Luling led 2-0 after one inning; Shiner outscored them 1-0 in the third.
Both teams brought home one run in the fourth, and Luling allowed no runs and scored four runs in the fifth inning. Shimek and Gottwald led Shiner at the plate with each going 1-for-2 with one run; Raley hit 1-for-2 with one RBI; Burlin was 1-for-1 and Janak got one hit. Burlin pitched five innings with 12 hits, seven runs and 10 strikeouts.

Cuero 7, Shiner 6
Going into the bottom of the third, Shiner led Cuero 6-3 before Cuero scored four runs and then kept Shiner off the board in the top of the fourth for a 7-6 win that ended Shiner’s tournament run on June 3.
Shiner scored two runs to start the game and Cuero scored three runs in the bottom of the first.
Shiner outscored Cuero 1-0 in the second frame for a tie game.
Shiner outhit Cuero 8-7 with Kieschnick going 2-for-2, double and run; Castello hit 1-for-2, double, two runs and one RBI while Janak batted 1-for-1, double and two RBI. Fishbeck was 1-for-2 with one run; Burlin got one hit; Gottwald was 1-for-2; Caka hit 1-for-1 with one run and Shimek scored one run.
Burlin pitched three innings with seven runs, seven hits and five strikeouts.

Coach Pitch Baseball
Shiner started the tournament with a 16-1 win over Luling on June 2 and followed up with a 4-2 win over Lockhart on Thursday.
Shiner played Cuero in the championship game on Sunday, coming up short 9-8 in extra innings.
Shiner defeated Lockhart 11-2 on Monday and was scheduled to play Cuero in the championship game Tuesday evening. A Shiner win would have forced a second game yesterday (Wednesday) with the winner taking the tournament championship.
