Local youth sports: Shiner starts regionals play on Saturday morning

Shiner will play in 2026 Southwest Region tournament, for the first time in program history, in Albuquerque, NM Saturday through July 22.
All games will be played at the Roadrunner Little League (10700 Lagrima De Oro, Albuquerque, NM, 87111).
Shiner will play round-robin style Saturday and Sunday against four other teams — Texas West, New Mexico, Louisiana and the host Roadrunner Little League.
The five teams will be seeded based on pool-play results for the single-elimination round that starts next Tuesday with the championship game set for next Wednesday.
Shiner is set to play Texas West at 9 a.m. local time on Saturday and will play Roadrunner Little League at 2  p.m. later that day.
On Sunday, Shiner will take on Louisiana at 11:30 a.m. and wrap up pool play on Monday against New Mexico at 9.
On Tuesday, the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds will play at 9, followed by No. 2 vs No. 3 at 11:30.
The No. 1 seed will play the winner of the No. 4/5 at 3 p.m. with the winner of that game playing the winner of the No.2/3 game at 9 a.m. Wednesday to determine the 2026 Southwest Regional Championship.
The winner will advance to the Junior League World Series in Kirkland, Wash.
