Local youth sports: Shiner wins Texas East State title, advances to Southwest Regionals

The Shiner Junior League softball team won the Texas East State Championship with a 10-0 win over Jasper on Monday in Rosenberg, booking a trip later this week to the Southwest Regional tournament in New Mexico.
Shiner defeated Jasper 12-2 on Friday to open the tournament before blanking Rice 11-0 on Saturday to set up the rematch with Jasper.

Eastyn Pohler struck out 13 of 17 batters faced, hit one batter and did not allow a single run or hit as Shiner shut down Jasper 10-0 in the championship game Monday night
Shiner led 3-0 after one inning, outscored Jasper 1-0 in the second before scoring three runs in the third and fourth innings.
Shiner was led by four two-hit batters at the plate — Ally Trojcak was 2-for-3, one run and one stolen base; Charlotte Hairell hit 2-for-2, one run, three RBI and one stolen base; Patricia Price was 2-for-2 with one run and one stolen base; Pohler batted 2-for-2, two runs, one RBI, one double and two stolen bases.
Also for Shiner, Amara Cuevas was 1-for-3, one RBI, one run and one stolen base; Avery Colman was 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base; Dawn Bishop was 1-for-1, one run, one RBI and one stolen base; Reese Lyons scored one run and had one stolen base; Addison Ulcak and Kendyl Boehm each one stolen base.

Shiner run-ruled Jasper Friday evening 12-2 with Colman and Pohler combining for a two-hitter.
Colman went three innings and gave up two runs (one earned), two hits, walked one and fanned three.
Pohler worked the final three frames and retired nine of the 10 batters she faced. Pohler recorded eight strikeouts, walked one and did not allow a hit.
Shiner scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning on four hits and three Jasper errors.
With one out, Cuevas struck out but reached base on a wild pitch. Pohler ensued with a double and Colman hit a RBI single. Hairell reached on a fielder’s choice before scoring on a wild pitch.
A sacrifice fly by Cuevas scored Lyons, who had walked.
Jasper scored its runs in the third inning. 
Presley Barthal singled and scored on a wild pitch. Layne Reagan reached on a single and came across when Emma Harley was safe on an error.
Shiner replied with two runs in the bottom of the third inning.
With one out, Hairell singled prior to scoring on a base hit by Ulcak. Boehm walked and Lyons drove in Ulcak with a single. Bishop knocked in the final run with a base hit for a 9-2 advantage.
Two more runs scored in fourth frame.
Pohler, who went 3-for-4, doubled to lead off the inning. Pohler scored on a fielder’s choice by Colman. After an Ulcak walk, Boehm’s single chased home Colman.
Shiner upped the lead to 11-2 with two runs in the fifth inning.Bishop led off with a single and scored on a wild pitch. After a Trojcak got in the mix with a base hit, Pohler scored her with a single.
The deciding run that ended the game came in the sixth inning. Boehm hit a single and scored when Lyons grounded out pitcher to first.
Shiner amassed 15 hits in the contest. Bishop had three hits in three plate appearances and Boehm was also 3-for-3. Ulcak also had a multi-hit game with two singles and drove in two runs.

Pohler was 3-for-3, three runs, five RBI with a home run and two doubles as Shiner cruised past Rice 11-0 on Saturday evening.
Shiner scored two runs in the first inning, scored one in the bottom of the second and recorded seven runs in the fourth inning. Colman picked up the win in the circle as she pitched four innings with one hit, four walks and nine strikeouts. Pohler closed out with one inning with a pair of strikeouts. Also at the plate for Shiner was Cuevas who went 2-for-3, two runs and one RBI; Lyons batted 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Trojcak hit 1-for-3, one run and one RBI; Hairell was 1-for-3, triple and one RBI; Patricia Price hit 1-for-1, run, RBI and one stolen base; Boehm scored two runs and had three stolen bases; Bishop added one run and Colman stole one base.
