Youth sports: Shiner Junior softball wins district championship

The Shiner Junior softball All-Stars captured the district championship with a win over New Braunfels while Minor Softball, Major Baseball and Minor Baseball concluded their seasons.
Junior Softball
Eastyn Pohler went 3-for-3, two runs, one triple, two RBI, Avery Colman hit 3-for-3, two runs, two RBI and triple with Ally Trojcak hitting 3-for-3 and two runs as the Shiner Junior softball All-stars captured the district title on June 17 with a 12-1 win over New Braunfels.
Shiner led New Braunfels 5-1 after one inning, outscored them 3-0 in the second inning, 2-0 in the third inning and 2-0 in the fourth inning.
Also for Shiner at the plate, Kendyl Boehm went 2-for-3, run and RBI; Patricia Price was 2-for-3 with three RBI; Reese Lyons hit 1-for-2 with one RBI and one double; Amara Cuevas swung 1-for-3, run and double; Charlotte Hairell  doubled, scored one run and brought in one run.  Addison Ulcak was 1-for-2 with two runs; Andi Mikulencak scored one run.
Pohler allowed one hit, one run, walked three and struck out 12 batters in five innings pitched.
Major Baseball
Yoakum rallied from a 5-1 deficit to defeat Shiner 10-6 on June  16, ending the Shiner run in the tournament.
Shiner threatened at its first time to bat as  Lycoln Leal and Jacob Patek got back-to-back one-out hits.   Patek was later out on a fielder’s choice before Yoakum got the third out to get out of the inning.
Yoakum’s Sutton Jacobs got a leadoff single and later scored on sacrifice fly ball by Eli Ballinger.
In the top of the third, Eli Patek was hit by the pitch with one out; Kannon Keller and Leal were walked to load the bases.
Eli Patek scored on a Jacob Patek hit; Keller went home on an error. Leal then scored on a fielder’s choice on Garrett Perez’s ball. Ian Pesek grounded out to shortstop to score Jacob Patek. Perez later went home on a Barrett Curtis hit.
Yoakum had a five-run inning of their own in the bottom of the third — Maddux Ward got a leadoff hit, later stole third and continued home on the error. Copper Boening was walked. Ward scored on a Jacobs hit; Ballinger got a hit to score Jacobs;Iker Rojas singled in Ballinger and later scored on a Kasyn Mercer hit for a 6-5 lead.
In the fourth frame, Yoakum scored four more runs on three hits: Ward got a leadoff single and later scored on an error. Boening scored on a double by Ballinger; Rojas brought two runs in on a home run.
Shiner scored a run in the fifth inning as Eli Patek was walked and scored when Leal grounded out to second base.
At the plate for Shiner, Jacob Patek was 2-for-3, run and RBI; Keller was 1-for-2, one run; Leal got one hit, scored one run and had one RBI; Curtis was 1-for-3 with one RBI; Beckham Wiederhold got two hits; Perez had one run; Pesek had one RBI; Eli Patek scored two runs and Ace Aman went 1-for-2.
Curtis pitched two innings with four runs on four hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Pesek yielded six runs on eight hits, one walk and five strikeouts.
Minor Softball
Shiner went 2-2 in the district tournament, falling to Gonzales to conclude the tournament.
Shiner 20, Cuero 3
Shiner scored 14 runs in the first inning and quickly dealt with Cuero 20-3 in three innings on June 17.
Shiner outscored Cuero 6-2 in the second inning. Cuero scored one run in the top of the third.
Shiner collected just five hits at the plate and took advantage of seven walks and four Cuero errors.
At the plate for Shiner,  Chaley Holik was 1-for-1, three runs, three RBI and one stolen base; Vivienne McDonald got one hit, scored three runs, doubled and had three RBI; Peyton Natho was 1-for-2 with two RBI; Hazel Mieschen got one hit and plated two runs;  Cora Netardus was 1-for-2 with two runs; Tatum Burlin scored three runs and brought in two runs; Charlotte Werner scored two runs.
Hadley Trojcak contributed two runs and stole one base; Caroline Wiederhold scored one run; Becka Schaefer scored one run and had one RBI; Tilde Netardus scored one run and brought in one run.
Shiner 16, Yoakum 11
Trojcak went 3-for-4 with two runs, double and two RBI while Holik batted 3-for-3 with three RBI, three runs and two stolen bases as Shiner beat Yoakum 16-11 on Thursday.
Yoakum scored four runs to start the game and Shiner scored six in the bottom of the first.
Shiner outscored Yoakum 6-0 in the second inning and 2-0 in the third. Yoakum got within 14-8 in the top of the fourth; Shiner scored one run in the bottom of the inning. Yoakum outscored Shiner 2-1 in the fifth inning and Yoakum scored one run in the top of the sixth.
Also at the plate for Shiner, Netardus went 1-for-2, run and RBI; McDonald hit 1-for-2, scored two runs and stole one base; Schaefer got one hit, scored one run and drove in one run; Natho hit 1-for-2, one run, one RBI and one stolen base; Wiederhold scored three runs and had one RBI; Meischen scored two runs and Werner added one run.
Gonzales 10, Shiner 0
Gonzales gave up no hits in a 10-0 win over Shiner on Friday to end Shiner’s tournament campaign.
Gonzales led 5-0 after one inning and scored three runs in the third. They plated one run in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth inning.
Shiner did five base runners on walks: Mieschen, Trojcak, Holik, Netardus and Schaefer all were issued one walk.
Minor Baseball
Shiner routed Lockhart and fell to Yoakum to conclude their tournament.
Shiner 14, Lockhart 4
Shiner outscored Lockhart 7-1 in the fifth inning on the way to a 14-4 win on June 17.
Ahead 11-2 to start the start the sixth inning, Shiner outscored Lockhart 3-2.
After a scoreless first inning, Shiner led 1-0 after two innings and went up 4-1 after four frames.    
At the plate, Eli Rother was the leader, going 2-for-3, run and two RBI. Max Allen got one hit and scored two runs; Jordan Patek was 1-for-1, two runs and two stolen bases; Wesley Stefka was 1-for-1, two runs, one RBI and five stolen bases; Hayes Handley got one hit, scored two runs, had one RBI and stole three bases; Kohen Blaschke scored two runs and stole two bases; Ellis Baker plated two runs, brought in one run and had one stolen base.
 Owen Koncaba scored one run and had two stolen bases. Kamden Flowers had one stolen base.
Rother pitched three innings with one hit, seven walks and two strikeouts. Baker worked one inning with one run, four walks and two strikeouts.
Allen pitched one inning with one run,one walk; Flowers worked one frame with two runs on one hit, one walk and one strikeout.
Yoakum 14, Shiner 0
Shiner’s tournament run came to end on Thursday in a 14-0 loss to Yoakum, the second time the teams played.
Yoakum led 3-0 after one inning and outscored Shiner 5-0 in the third inning.
Yoakum outscored Shiner 6-0 in the fourth inning.
Patek and Allen each went 1-for-2 as Shiner got just two hits in the game.
Handley pitched 2 1/3 innings for Shiner with seven runs, eight walks and seven strikeouts. 
 Flowers worked 2/3 innings with one hit, one run, one walk and one strikeout. Lane Aman pitched one inning with six runs on three hits and three walks.
