Candidate filing has ended

The filing deadline for candidates to run for positions on the Hallettsville ISD Board of Trustees and the Hallettsville City Council ended this past Friday, Feb. 14 with each entity reporting candidates who have filed.

Hallettsville ISD reports that two places are up for election for the Board of Trustees that include Place 4 (Justin Smith) and Place 5 (Brian Henneke).

According to the HISD administrator’s office, Henneke filed for re-election and Jon Lamson filed for the Place 4 chair. Smith has chosen not to file.

Regarding positions on City Council, Hallettsville City Administrator/Secretary Grace Ward reported the positions for election include Hallettsville mayor (Alice Jo Summers), Place 2 (Audrey Barrera) and Place 5 (Billy Barrera).

Ward said Summers will face opposition from Gordon G. Clark, while Audrey (Vaclavik) Barrera and Billy Barrera have filed and will be unopposed.

The City of Hallettsville election will be on Saturday, May 3 at the Lavaca County Annex Building.

Early voting will take place starting Tuesday, April 22 through Friday, April 25, and also on Monday and Tuesday, April 28 and 29.

The Lavaca Medical Center administrator’s office reported their entity will not hold elections this year.
