Candidate filings end Friday
The filing deadline for candidates to run for positions on the Hallettsville ISD Board of Trustees, the Hallettsville City Council and the Lavaca Hospital District Board of Directors ends Friday, Feb. 16 with each entity reporting candidates who have filed thus far.
The positions up for election on the Hallettsville ISD Board of Trustees include Place 1 (Brian Smith), Place 2 (Holly Cliffe), and Place 3 (Marna Klimitchek).
According to the HISD administrators office, as of yesterday, Feb. 13, Smith and Cliffe have filed for re-election for there respective positions. In addition, Tina M. Herrington filed for Place 2 and Sharesce Sidney filed for the Place 3 chair.
Persons interested in filing as a candidate for the Board of Trustees of HISD may file or pick up the required forms at the Superintendent’s office at 302 N. Ridge St. through Friday between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Regarding positions on City Council, Hallettsville City Administrator/Secretary Grace Ward reports the positions up for election include Place 1 (Chastity Grant Carter), Place 3 (Trent Skelton) and Place 4 (Dean Madden). Ward said Carter, Skelton and Madden have all filed to run for re-election. The Lavaca Medical Center administrator’s office reports there are four positions on the board who are up for election and include Place 1 (Carl Hobbs), Place 5 (Gene Schott), Place 7 (Forrest Kroschel) and the unexpired Place 3 position currently held by Ronnie Juenke. The Place 3 position was vacated by John Allen, who resigned from the board last October. Juenke was appointed to the position at the November 2023 meeting. At present, the LMC administrator’s office reports that Hobbs, Schott, Kroschel and Juenke have filed for the election. Elections for the three entities are scheduled for Saturday, May 4 and will be held at Lavaca County Annex.
