Fullness of Truth Catholic conference coming Oct. 14-15 to Cathedral Center

At an upcoming two-day fall conference, Catholics in the Victoria diocese will be able to delve into the role of Blessed Virgin Mary like few have before.

Theologians debated the significance of the mother of Jesus since before the Protestant Reformation. After all, she rarely appears in the New Testament and speaks even less. Can the scriptures really support the myriad of Marian doctrines and beliefs proclaimed by Catholics all these centuries?

Plus, Mary was human just like the rest of us, right? Why are the scriptures replete with references to her?  Why is it so important to recognize her virginity even after Christ’s birth?  Was she truly without sin, and what is the significance of her Immaculate Conception and Glorious Assumption?  Simply put, why do Catholics make such a big deal about Mary?

The Victoria Diocese’s Fullness of Truth Fall Conference entitled “Mary, The New Eve: Grasping Her Role in Salvation History” seeks to answer these questions and more. It takes place Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14-15, at Our Lady Victory Cathedral Center, 3202 N. Laurent St. in Victoria.

Speakers include El Campo native Gary Janak, Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of San Antonio; Monsignor Eduardo Chavez of the Canon at the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City, postulator for the canonization cause of St. Juan Diego; Marian author and international presenter Immaculee Ilibagiza, a Rwandan genocide survivor; and author Jim Burnham, a Catholic evangelist and apologist.

Attendees will leave with “a better appreciation of how the Marian doctrines are not only relevant but essential to a comprehensive faith in Jesus Christ.”
