Voter registration deadline Monday, Oct. 7

Lavaca County citizen who plan on voting in the November 5 General Election must be registered to vote.

To register to vote, citizens should fill out and turn in a voter registration application to the Lavaca County Elections department.

The deadline for turning in all voter registration applications is Monday, Oct. 7.

The election department’s hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office is closed from 12 noon to 1 p.m.

Lavaca County election administrator Tenia Hudson said, “A voter registration application can also be used to change your address or update your name on your existing voter registration. If you would like to check your voter registration status, please visit VoteTexas. gov or contact the elections office at 412 N. Texana St. in Hallettsville.

“Don’t wait until the last minute, act early,” Hudson said. “If you have any questions, please call the Lavaca County Elections Department at (361) 798-3594.

According to Hudson, Lavaca County has a population of 20,589 residents and serves 14,031 registered voters.

“Election’s mission aims to uphold a high level of professional election standards to earn and preserve public confidence in the electoral process,” Hudson said.

Ballot by Mail Deadline

Registered voters in Lavaca County who plan on voting by mail must have a 2024 ballot by mail application on file with the Lavaca County Elections Department.

According to Hudson, the deadline for turning in applications for Ballot by Mail is Friday, Oct. 25.

According to Hudson, Lavaca County will only mail out a ballot by mail application, if it is requested by the voter.

“A few organizations and parties are sending out Ballot by Mail applications too,” Hudson said. Therefore, it is not uncommon for a Lavaca County voter to get two or more applications for ballot by mail via the US Postal Service. Your county only needs one 2024 application by mail on file.

Voting Dates

Registered voters in Lavaca County may cast their vote prior to Nov. 5 by voting early.

“All registered voters who choose to vote early will cast their vote at the Courthouse Annex at 412 N. Texana St. in Hallettsville,” Hudson said.

Hudson said early voting will take place on the following days that include:

• Monday, Oct. 21 through Friday, Oct. 25 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

• Saturday, Oct. 26 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

• Sunday, Oct. 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Monday, Oct. 28 through Friday, Nov. 1 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Registered voters who plan to vote on Election Day must vote at their Precinct Polling Location. All eleven polling locations in Lavaca County will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
