2nd half blues fatal to Brahmas
Hallettsville did fine in the first half of its District 25-AAA opener with Altair Rice Consolidated here Friday night, but then came the final two quarters.
The Brahmas had a one-point lead at the half prior to the Raiders going on a 15-4 run to start the third period, thanks to 5 Brahma turnovers, to take a 45-31 advantage into the final eight minutes.
Robert Bennett led the Raiders’ second half rally with 8 points and Jalen Porch and Jerome Fuller scored 7 apiece.
The Brahmas’ first half effort was led by William Mundine’s 18 points. The Brahmas had a 10-8 lead at the end of the first quarter with Mundine scoring 5 points and Jorian Wilson 3.
Rice took a 19-10 advantage at the onset of the second stanza before the Brahmas scored 13 unanswered - 11 by Mundine - to lead at the half, 25-24.
Mundine scored a game-high 22 points and Jashaun Price scored 10.
