Brahmas in annual scuffle with Comanches

The Hallettsville Brahmas and Shiner meet for the ninth year in a row at Comanche Stadium Friday evening with a 7:30 kickoff.

The Comanches have just five seniors, but what they do have is quarterback Carson Schuette.

“Schuette also plays safety and is their most ex p l o s ive o f f e n s ive player,” Brahma head coach Levi Montgomery said. “Shiner is going to be consistent to what they have always been. They have good kids that play hard, they are well coached and run their schemes very well. With the way they run the ball, it is imperative that our defense can stop them on third down.

“Offensively, we will have our work cut out for us and tackle well. As expected, we’re going to lean on our offensive line to give (Mycole) Pegoda and (Tradyn) Williams some running room,” Montgomery added.

The Brahmas defeated the Comanches for the second year in a row in 2023. The Brahmas hold a 13-7 edge in the series.

The teams first met in 1923 and did not play again until 1950.

Shiner returned 7/8 starters.

TE/LB Kyle Adamek had 85 tackles and other players to watch are OL/DL Bode Werner, OL/DL Jared Werner, HB Caleb Lehnert, OL/DL Barrett Shelton, WR/DB Quincy Jones and OL/LB Drake Cerny.

Scrimmage

The Brahmas and Giddings tied 1-1 in Thursday’s scrimmage in Giddings.

Quarterback Mycole Pegoda scored the only Brahma touchdown on a 70-yard keeper.

“The offense moved the ball in spurts , but ended up having miscues that stopped drives,” Montgomery said. “Defense played well overall, but we did give up a long run due to busted assignments.

“Good scrimmage, but certainly shows we still have plenty to work on,” Montgomery added.
