Brahmas beat out for third place

GERONIMO –San Antonio St. Mary’s Hall outscored Hallettsville 22-16 in the fourth quarter to take a 68-60 victory over the Brahmas in the third place game of the Navarro Tournament Saturday afternoon.

The Brahmas led 14-6 at the first break after Mundine buried three threes and the score was tied at 23 at the half.

Zachary Smith had a game-high 31 points for the Barons (9-6) with a 10- for-12 performance from the free-throw line.

The Brahmas made 12 of 16 free throws.

“The boys played well all weekend and we improved as a team,” coach Brock Gerlich said. “We played tough competition and stepped up for the challenge and we are headed into district play with some momentum.”

The Brahmas, 5-9, open District 28-AAA play at home against Rice Consolidated Friday.

Lions 57, Brahmas 39

Lockhart outscored Hallettsville 27-12 in the middle quarters in a 57-39 Lions victory.

No players were in double figures for the Brahmas.

SAK 54, Brahmas 49 (OT)

The Hallettsville Brahmas scored zero points in overtime in the 54-49 loss to San Antonio Kennedy Saturday.

The Rockets led 28-24 at the intermission and the Brahmas whittled the lead to 35-34 going into the final eight minutes.

Jashaun Price made two threepointers in the fourth period to help the Brahmas to tie the game at 49-all and send the game to overtime.

Three players were in double digits led by Price’s 12 points.

Brahmas 64, Navarro 49

A 27-point first quarter ended up huge in the Brahmas’ 64-49 verdict over Navarro Thursday.

William Mundine IV led the first period surge with 14 points and the Brahmas led 27-17 at the end of the first eight minutes of play.

The Brahmas led 35-20 at the half after a slow second stanza.

Mundine poured in 21 points, Nathan Henke scored 15 and Jorian Wilson 14.

Brahmas 47, SA Lanier 44

William Mundine IV scored 18 points and Jorian Wilson 11 in the 47-44 victory over San Antonio Lanier.

The Brahmas led 21-19 before Lanier took a 26-24 lead into the fourth period. In the fourth quarter, the Brahmas made 9 free throws.
