Brahmas drop to third place with losses to Industrial, Columbus

Back-to-back to back losses last dropped the Hallettsville Brahmas to third place in the District 25-AAA standings.

The latest came here Thursday night when district pacesetter Columbus scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 5-2 verdict.

Columbus scored its three runs on two hits, two walks and an error.

Hudson Chenard pitched well in defeat and ended up with a no decision. The sophomore right hander gave up five hits, two runs, three walks and struck out 10.

Jorian Wilson was the losing pitcher and came on in relief in the seventh inning. After getting Lane Kulhanek to ground out, he hit a wild streak and walked Jackson Hancock. Tanner Cliffe then took the bump and ceded a run-scoring single to Dylan Zajicek. Trevor Berger doubled to deep left field to score Hancock and Trevor Berger’s two bagger plated Zajicek.

Hallettsville (12-6, 4-3) stranded eight baserunners and left the bases loaded in the first inning previous to scoring its lone two runs.

Kaleb Kuhn pitched a complete game for the Cardinals and surrendered five hits, walked three and struck out nine. After the second inning, Kuhn gave up just two hits.

Hallettsville took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Brock Bludau walked on a 3-1 pitch and Andrew was safe on an error. Jorian Wilson’s single to left scored Bludau. Monte Thigpen bunted for a base hit and a sacrifice fly by Tanner Wagner scored George. After a base on balls to Carter Blaha, Kuhn got out of a potential big inning with a strikeout and an infield out, leaving the bases filled.

The Cardinals (15-5, 7-0) scored a run in the second inning on a walk and double by Brody Tribe.

Columbus tied it at 2-all in the third inning. A clutch two-out single by Berger scored Carter, who had walked.

INDUSTRIAL 8, BRAHMAS 3

The Brahmas dropped an 8-3 decision to Industrial in Vanderbilt Tuesday, March 26.

The Cobras were up 2-0 after three innings. Hallettsville got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning. Andrew George led off with a base hit and Jorian Wilson was hit by a pitch. George scored on an infield out by Monte Thigpen.

The Cobras made it 5-1 with a three run bottom of the fourth inning with Sam Kurtz driving in two runs with a single.

Industrial put the Brahmas at arm’s length with a three-run sixth inning.

The final Brahma run came in after two errors in the seventh.

Two lefties - Jace Chaney and Cooper Francis - held the Brahmas to six hits.

Connor Kopecky was the starter and loser for Hallettsville.
