Brahmas fade in final minute

Just three days after Hallettsville had upset Rice consolidated, the Brahmas did an about-face in losing to rival Yoakum here Friday night, 45-43.

The Brahmas frittered away a three-point lead in the final 1:04 of the fourth quarter with turnovers the main culprit.

The Bulldogs scored the final 5 points of the game. X'Zavier Barnett made two free throws and a bucket and Jamar Hopkins sank two from the charity line to steal the deal.

The teams left their offenses in the dressing room in the first perios, which Hallettsville led 8-6, at quarter's end.

Things heated up in the second quarter. The Brahmas took a brief 13-6 lead at the onset on a three by Dougie Mundine and two free throws by Jorian Wilson to go up, 13-3. The Bulldogs retaliated with 10 points in a row for a 16- 13 advantage prior to the Brahmas closing with a 7-3 surge to take a 20-18 lead at he half

Yoakum (16-12, 7-2) got hot in the third period and hit 50% from the floor which led to a 32-26 advantage heading into the final eight minutes.

The Brahmas regrouped and went up 43-40 with a 17-9 run fueled by 5 points each by Mundine and Nathan Henke only to lose at the end.

The Brahmas committed just 8 turnovers before the fourth period, but made 5 in the final eight minutes.

Jorian Wilson was the only Brahma in double figures with 12 points. Wilson canned 4 of 6 field goal attempts and was 4 of 4 from the free-throw line.

Barnett led Yoakum with 14 points Zachary Taylor scored 13 and Isaac Martinez 12.

Brahmas 58, RC 55 (OT)The Brahmas picked up a huge road victory with a 58-55 overtime win over Altair Rice Consolidated Tuesday, Jan. 23. Hallettsville out-scored the Raiders, 7-4, in the extra period with the Brahmas making 5 of 6 free throws. D ougie Mundine and Shane Migura both made 2 and Monte Thigpen one and the only field goal. The score was tied 12-12 at the first break, 26-26 at the half, 44-44, after three and 51-all in regulation.

Mundine led the Brahmas with 15 points, Thigpen scored 13 and Jashaun Price 11. Jalen Porch represented almost half of the Raiders’ offense with 26 points with 8 threes. The Brahmas made 14 of 19 free throws.
