Brahmas rally to defeat Edna, 4-2
The Hallettsville Brahmas had gone 10 innings without scoring a run prior to the bottom of the sixth inning with their District 25-AAA game with Edna here Friday.
The Brahmas exploded for four runs in the sixth to eke out a 4-2 victory.
Edna pitcher DKayden Diggs had held the Brahmas to only two hits before the rally
Preston Wagner led off the sixth inning with a single and stole second. Brock Bludau laid down a perfect bunt for a base hit. Andrew George bounced into a fielder’s choice to score Preston Wagner. Jorian Wilson stepped to the plate and blasted a two-run home run - his seventh of the season - for a 3-2 lead. The final run scored on a Hudson Chenard single.
Chenard (4-0 with a 1.29 ERA) threw a complete game, giving up only four hits, no earned runs, walked two and struck out seven.
Diggs retired the first 11 batters he faced before Wilson singled with two outs in the fourth inning.
Yoakum Debacle
Tanner Cliffe saw another good pitching effort go to waste in the 4-2 loss to Yoakum Tuesday, March 12 in Yoakum.
Wyatt Hanzelka held Hallettsville to four hits in pitching a complete game. The senior lefthander ceded four hits, no earned runs, walked three and struck out five.
Cliffe worked 3.2 innings and gave up four runs (zero earned), two hits, walked two and struck out one.
Konnor Kopecky went the final 2.1 innings. He gave up no hits, struck out three and walked two.
The Brahmas took a 2-0 advantage with runs in the first and second innings.
Brock Bludau led off with a walk in the top of the first inning, went to second on a wild pitch and scored when Tanner Wagner’s fly ball was dropped in the outfield.
The Brahmas scored a run in the second inning before leaving the bases loaded.
Josh Griffin was thrown out at second after trying to stretch a single into a double. With two outs, Preston Wagner was safe on an error and scored when Jorian Wilson was walked with the bases loaded.
The Brahmas had just one hit after the second frame.
