Brahmas tie with Rice for district title
ALTAIR – The Hallettsville Brahmas tied with Rice Consolidated for the District 25-AAA Track and Field Meet at Veterans Memorial Stadium Thursday and it took some heroics to do so.
Rice led in points 136 to 128 before the foursome of Colt Edmonds, Landry Brown, David Johnson and Damarion Austin turned in a school record time of 3:25.75 and the Raiders finished third.
The Raiders and Brahmas totaled 148 points.
Hallettsville won all three relays for 60 points and took four other first places.
Mycole Pegoda won the long jump (21-2), Rashaun Sidney took the triple jump (44.05), Caden Willis the 300-meter hurdles (40.94) and Aiden Drozd took the discus with a throw of 141 feet, 7 inches.
The Brahma 4x200 relay set a school record with a 1:27.18 and consisted of Austin, Willis, Sidney and Layne Gerke.
The 4x100 relay turned in a time of 42.89 and was made up of Pegoda, Gerke, Willis and Sidney.
The top four finishers advance to the area meet at Rice Consolidated Thursday.
David Johnson was second in the high jump (6-0); Drozd second in the shot (46-8); Sidney second in the 200 (21.88) and Austin third (21.95); Kyle Svetlik fourth in the shot (42-4) and Sidney third in the long jump (20-10.25).
