Brahmas win three, Lose one in Yoakum tournament
YOAKUM – Hallettsville lost its final game of the Yoakum Tournament Saturday, 10-1, to La Vernia, a team they had beaten earlier in the tourney.
The Bears’ Austin Lewis held the Brahmas to only four hits, two by Brock Bludau.
Bludau led of the first with a base hit, stole second, went to third on an infield out and scored when Jorian Wilson grounded out to the second baseman.
Wilson had a lead-off doubled in the fourth inning before being left on base.
Wilson walked at the onset of the sixth inning, but again the Brahmas could not come through with a big hit.
Konnor Kopecky took the loss.
NOTE: Andrew George had a 5-for-5 string going before in ended with the loss.
Brahmas 10, La Vernia 9
With a flair for the dramatics, Josh Griffin hit a two-run homer with two outs in the final inning to gave the Brahmas a 10-9 victory over La Vernia Friday.
Griffin’s homer went over the short porch in right field and scored Hudson Chenard ahead of him. Monte Thigpen opened the inning with a walk and scored on a wild pitch.
The Brahmas trailed 9-2 before beginning the comeback with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, three of them provided by Jorian Wilson’s three-run home run, his third of the season.
Tanner Wagner’s single in the first inning scored Andrew George, who had doubled.
The Brahmas pushed across two runs in the third inning on a runscoring single by Tanner Wagner and a passed ball.
Andrew George led a 10-hit attack with three hits in three at bats, three runs scored an a RBI.
Chenard and Wagner were was 2-for-3 with Wagner driving in three runs.
Brahmas 9, West 7
The Brahmas scored in every inning but one in the victory over Victoria West Friday.
Jorian Wilson was the winning pitcher in relief.
The Brahmas broke a 6-all tied with three runs in the fifth inning.
Tanner Wagner and Carter Blaha doubled. Wagner had two hits in the contest and two RBI, Monte Thigpen knocked in two runs with a single and Andrew George was 2-for-2.
Brahmas 9, Calhoun 1
Hudson Chenard started and went four innings to get the win. He gave up a run, three hits, struck out nine and walked three.
Monte Thigpen threw the final two innings and allowed no hits, walked two and struck out two.
The Brahmas amassed nine hits with Brock Bludau, Carter Blaha and Thigpen getting two each. One of Thigpen’s hits was a double. Blaha had three RBI.
Andrew George, and Jorian Wilson also hit safely. Wilson drove in two runs.
