Lady Brahmas gain tie for first with 63-40 verdict over Edna

The Hallettsville Lady Brahmas waited 38 days to avenge the 59-31 loss to Edna in Edna Dec. 12.

The wait was well worth it as the LB rolled to a 63-40 victory over Edna to gain a tie for first place with the Cowgirls in District 25-AAA here Friday night.

On a night when Macy Herring scored her 1,000th career point, Hallettsville held Edna to 25% shooting in the second half, forced 7 turnovers and used a 17-3 fourth quarter to pull away.

The LB turned the ball over 5 times in the first quarter but still led 17-12 at period’s end.

Kiera Santelanna scored 9 points in the second period to help the Cowgirls pull within 28-25 at the half.

The LB were leading 35-34 in the middle of the third quarter before Alaina Halata dropped two threes and Kasey Harper one to lead a string of 11 consecutive points to expand the margin to 46- 36 going into the fourth period.

The win came on coach Hunter Hlavaty’s 34th birthday.

Hallettsville (26-5, 8-1) shot 38.6% from the field and were 5 of 16 on threepoint attempts.

Herring led all scorers with 20 points, making 7 of 12 shots attempted. Harper and Kolacny had 11 points each.

The Lady Brahmas had a good time in Palacios with a 68-38 victory over the Sharkettes Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Macy Herring scored 11 of the Lady Brahmas’ 17 points in the first quarter for a 10-point lead at the first break.

Hallettsville really starting pouring in on with a 22-point second period with Layten Kolacny providing 8 of the points and a 39-17 advantage at the half.

The LB hit seven three pointers and were 7 of 11 from the free throw line.

Herring led all scorers with 20 and Adalyn Pohl (14) and Kolacny (13) were also in double digits.
