2023 Lavaca Roundup set for Sunday, March 26

The 2023 Lavaca Roundup (Show - Shine - Social)  is coming up on Sunday, March 26 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. at the Lavaca County Courthouse Square.   It is open to all — Cars Trucks, Bikes, Boats, Tractors.  All donations will benefit the Lavaca County Relay for Life.

Keith Mudd sworn in as Lavaca County Judge

Several new officials were sworn in during a morning ceremony Sunday, Jan. 1 at the Lavaca County Courthouse in Hallettsville. Wayne Faircloth accepts his oaths as Lavaca County Precinct 2 County Commissioner.
With the oath of office administered Sunday morning at the Lavaca County Courthouse to several new county officials, including her replacement, Elizabeth Kouba officially begins her retirement after 42 years of public service to its citizenry. A legacy that lasts…

Asked what she felt was her greatest accomplishment in her 42 years of county service, and the first thing Liz Kouba did was look at her wristwatch. "Oh yeah, we’ve still got time," she said. "Come with me.

Prosecutor’s expired law license prompts mistrial in murder case

They wasted no time bringing the recently identified remains of Korean War POW Pfc. Adelaido Mata Solis back to his home on Tuesday, Oct. 25. We caught up with them just outside El Campo.  Heading the pack on his black trike is Don Williams of Hallettsville, the same who hosts the Lavaca County Warrior Weekend deer hunt, taking place Nov. 18-19 out at his ranch. Williams ensured Pfc. Solis had a proper escort in the final leg of what’s been a 71-year-long journey back home.

The long road back home

Sitting out on his front porch recently, U.S. Air Force veteran Don Williams started counting, right out loud, out of the blue. “Four-five-six, so six,” he said, his eyes fixed on some random chunk of ceiling, or maybe a tree branch, way up high, as he rolled back the memory reels in his head.

Hunter education program recognizes 1.5 millionth student

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has spent the last 50 years educating more than 1.5 million hunters statewide on the best safe practices available when out in the field so that you and all your hunting buddies make it back home as safe as possible.
