Volleyball: Lady Comanches serve up sweep over St. Paul

The Lady Comanches serving was on point. Shiner beat cross-town opponent St. Paul in three games, 25-12, 25-15, 25-25-16 on Aug. 30. The Lady Comanches had 22 aces in the match. “We had been working on serve-receive and we served very aggressively,” Lady Comanches head coach Desiree Nitsch said.

Shiner CC: Lady Comanches third at Industrial

The Lady Comanches and Comanches ran in the Industrial meet on Saturday. Varsity Girls The Lady Comanches got third with 90 points. Ramirez was Shiner’s top finisher with ninth place in 14:40. Burns was No. 11 in 14:49; Chrismon was No. 14 in 14:59; Pustka was No. 17 with a time of 15:06.

Football: Shiner teams will look to rebound

Shiner hosts Industrial while St. Paul is at San Antonio TMI-Episcopal. Both teams fell in their openers. Industrial at Shiner Shiner hosts Industrial at 7:30 p.m. at Comanche Stadium for the first of two straight home games.

Shiner FFA steer validation set Sept. 10

Shiner FFA steer validation will take place from 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Shiner Ag Barn. This validation is mandatory for all students showing a steer at the Shiner FFA Livestock Show. All steers should be in your possession and halter-broken by this time.

Veteran Yoakum principal steps in at SHS just before school starts

Longtime Yoakum High School Principal Chris Wegener is now the principal at Shiner High School, following the late summer departure of Brian McGraw, the former high school principal, who was lured away by Ganado ISD to serve as superintendent of schools at the Jackson County district.

SISD approves tax cut for 2022-23 fiscal year

Despite seeing across-the-board cost increases on everything the district needs to run a school, to the tune of about a 14% increase over what those same items cost this year, the board of directors voted Monday night to lower taxes for district taxpayers in the coming year.

Shiner Football: Hallettsville 14, Shiner 7

Hallettsville’s Damarion Austin’s 32-yard run with just 10 minutes left in the third quarter broke a 7-7 tie and was the difference in the Shiner Comanches falling a little short at Hallettsville, 14-7, to open the 2022 season.

Shiner public schools earn A rating from the state

Shiner public schools landed one more thing to brag about when the Texas Education Agency (TEA) released its official school ratings on Monday. That’s because Shiner earned a score of 96 when those ratings were released on Aug. 15.
