Cross country: Shiner, St. Paul run in Yoakum

The Shiner and St. Paul cross-country teams started the season Saturday in Yoakum with the each school’s girls varsity teams placing top five. Shiner Varsity Girls The Lady Comanches scored 100 points to finish fourth place in the team standings Brinley Ramirez was No.

Both Shiner teams held their first scrimmages at the end of last week. The Cardinals were at Nixon on Thursday while the Comanches hosted Tidehaven in the Soap/Towel Scrimmage on Friday. NS scrimmage beneficial for Cardinals St.

The Shiner Lady Comanches won runner up in their home tournament last Friday and Saturday. Juniors Aimee Mitchon and Rylee Vancura were named to the All-Tournament team. Bracket Play Shiner 2, Hallettsville 1 The Lady Comanches beat Hallettsville in three games in the Gold Bracket semifinals.

Shiner played its first official match of the season as they split the Aug. 10 tri match at Yoakum against Gonzales and the Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Comanches took down Gonzales 3-1 (25-18, 25-16, 24-26, 25-20) and lost to Yoakum in four games, 25-17, 22-25, 25-12 and 25-19.

Shiner FFA returns energized from state convention Fort Worth

Shiner FFA officers returned recently from the 94th annual Texas FFA convention held at the historic Fort Worth Stockyard District, where student leaders from across Lavaca County and the Lone Star State spent an entire week of July 11-15 immersed in all things FFA.

The Comanche Band directors and current drum majors made a presentation at the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention in San Antonio. The presentation was entitled “Building a Well-Oiled Machine” Develop your small school leadership into a dream team!

The Shiner Lady Comanche 2022 varsity volleyball tournament starts on Friday (Aug. 12) with pool play and wraps up on Saturday (Aug. 13) with bracket play. Teams competing are — Pool A: Flatonia, Gonzales, Hallettsville, Stockdale; Pool B: Shiner, Edna, Hallettsville Sacred Heart, Yoakum.
