Shiner baseball: Wenske plays in 17 games with four starts for WCJC

2023 Comanche graduate Drew Wenske continued his collegiate baseball career as a sophomore at Wharton County Junior College during the 2025 season.Wenske played in 17 games at pitcher and WCJC posted a 27-28 record, 17-18 in conference play, 11-10 at home, 8-13 on the road and 8-5 at neutral sites.

Shiner softball: Shiner softball receives All-State awards

Several members of the 2025 2ADII state finalist Shiner softball team received various All-State awards following the season.TSWA All-StateJunior Lauren Springfield was awarded Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) All-State Second Team as Designated Player/Designated Hitter/Flex.

 Baseball and softball umpires are the part of the game who make sure the rules are followed and the game is played fairly.

Local sports: Shiner Summer Slam Tennis tournament Friday

Shiner has partnered with the San Marcos Tennis Xperience to host the first ever UTR tennis tournament in Shiner. The tournament will be level-based singles and doubles, both juniors and adults welcome, and will take place Friday at Green-Dickson park starting at 8 a.m.

The Shiner Stars 12-year old baseball team has made headlines this summer after winning the prestigious Triple Crown World Series tournament held in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
