Shiner cross country: Veteran harrier Burns to end HS career at state

Shiner Lady Comanche senior cross-country runner Hayleigh Burns will conclude her high school cross-country career at the best place possible — the UIL state meet this weekend. Burns will run in the 2A girls two mile race at 10:10 a.m. Saturday  at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock.

Shiner volleyball: Schulenburg rallies to topple Lady Comanches 3-2; Shiner wins toss to finish in second place

SCHULENBURG — The Lady Comanches came out on fire Oct. 24 at Schulenburg, winning the first  two sets. Shiner was unable to keep the momentum going and the Lady Shorthorns rallied for a 3-2 (13-25, 19-25, 25-15, 25-21, 15-9.

Shiner volleyball: Lady Comanches sink Leopards in first round of volleyball playoffs

YORKTOWN — The Shiner volleyball team had little problem with the Kenedy Leopards in the first round. The Lady Comanches handled Kenedy 25-10, 25-12, 25-11 Monday evening at Yorktown High School.

St. Paul volleyball: Lady Cards pay back CCC with four-set win in bi-district

It was redemption for the Lady Cardinals volleyball team. St. Paul beat Conroe Covenant Christian 25-16, 25-23, 14-25 and 25-19 Friday evening in Tomball in the TAPPS 2A bi-district round. Last year, in the same round, the Lady Cougars won in a full, five-set match.

St. Paul cross country: St. Paul girls XC gets Silver at state

The St. Paul cross-country teams concluded the season with the TAPPS state meet Monday in Waco. The girls placed second and had the 2A individual champion, and the boys were also top 10.

Shiner cross country: Shiner cross country sends one to state

The Shiner cross-country program will have one runner at the state meet, senior Lady Comanche Hayleigh Burns. Varsity Girls Shiner came in No. 10 in the 2A Girls 3,200-meter run with 270 points. Burns was the top finisher with eighth place in 13 minutes, 11.62 seconds and a pace of 6:36 a mile.

Shiner volleyball: Shiner gets big win at Weimar

The Shiner Lady Comanches won at Weimar and beat Flatonia at home in district matches last week. Shiner 3, Flatonia 0 Serving, serve-receive, hitting and blocking was all done to head coach Desiree Nitsch’s satisfaction. Defense is where she would like the Lady Comanches to fine tune.
