Hallettsville voters keep Summers as mayor

Alice Jo Summers will retain her role as mayor of Hallettsville, voters decided Saturday.

Summers faced a three-way race for the city’s top elected position, with challenges coming from councilwoman and mayor pro-tem Cindy Renken and Hallettsville resident Gordon C. Clark. Summers won the votes 179-79-27, respectively, according to unofficial election night returns.

Summers won 62.81% of the votes, unofficial results showed, with 110 cast early, 17 by way of absentee voters and 52 on election day.

Renken won 27.72% of the votes, with 44 coming from early voters, 14 by absentee voters and 21 on election day, while Clark got 9.547% of the votes, with 15 cast early, 5 from absentee voters and 7 on election day.

Two other uncontested seats were also on the ballots: Place 2 held by Audrey Vaclavik Barrera, collecting 218 votes, and Place 5 (Renken’s current seat) went to Billy Barrera with 210 votes, according to unofficial election night returns.
