Pause before posting first day photos on social media
For many schools, the new term is beginning this week and there is always excitement for many, especially the students going to school on the first day.
This excitement will cause parents to pull out there cell phones to take photos of their child dressed for that first day and sharing it with relatives and friends on Facebook, Instagram, Snap Chat, and other social media outlets.
However, before you post those memory filled photographs, take a pause by keeping your child’s basic information to yourself.
It is important to know that posting personnel information opens the door for scammers or predators, who could use the information to their advantage.
Tips you should know when posting photos on social media include:
• Avoid sharing details about the child’s name or their favorite things they like to do.
• Don’t post information about the child’s school, grade level or teacher.
• Be aware of posting background information such as house address or school logos.
• Check your social media settings making sure they are set on private or for friends only.
• Watch for any phony friend request after posting the photos.
