Thursday night traffic stop ends in federal arrest
UPDATED STORY on WEDNESDAY, AUG. 31 (Includes name of the person booked and additional information pertaining to that)
A late night traffic stop in Hallettsville Thursday ended in the arrest of a man police say was wanted on a federal warrant for illegal reentry into the United States, having been deported on five separate occasions.
Hallettsville police made the stop at 9:13 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, in the 400-block of Fairwinds. Upon running the driver’s name in the system, it was learned that he was wanted in connection with an outstanding Brazoria County arrest warrant for terroristic threat.
He was detained and taken to the Lavaca County Jail without incident.
During inmate processing, officers also learned that the man was wanted on a federal warrant for illegal reentry into the United States, having repeatedly snuck across the border and committed violent crimes while he was here, the Hallettsville Police Department’s media release said.
Police Chief Randy Schlauch said Friday evening that Homeland Security was alerted and agents with that department have since arrived to claim the prisoner on the federal aggravated felon reentry charge.
The man arrested was identified as one Jose Reyes of Clute, but as Chief Schlauch noted, especially with the federal charges he got picked up on, the chances of that being the man's real name are probably zilch.
