Yoakum girls basketball: Lady Bulldogs won both two district games last week

The Lady Bulldogs picked up wins in both district games from last week. Yoakum 59, Palacios 42 Jayana Phillips and Destiny Rios each scored 14 points in the Lady ‘’Dogs 59-42 win at Palacios Jan. 10.

Yoakum volleyball: Phillips win All-State Honorable Mention

Sophomore volleyball member Jayana Phillips received Class 3A Honorable Mention on the Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association  All-State Volleyball Team that was recently released. Phillips helped guide the Lady Bulldogs to a historic season with an appearance in the regional championship match.

Yoakum girls soccer: Lady 'Dogs win 4-0 against Port Lavaca Calhoun

The Yoakum Lady Bulldogs soccer team picked up a non-district home win against Port Lavaca Calhoun on Jan. 10 with a 4-0 victory. Daphne Oviedo converted twice from the penalty spot, and Rubi Martinez and Jackie Melendez each scored a goal.

Yoakum boys basketball: Bulldogs get first district win in action last week

Yoakum defeated Palacios and lost to Edna in district action last week. Yoakum 55, Palacios 54 A 21-14 run in the fourth frame gave Yoakum its first district win, 55-54, at Palacios on Jan. 10.

  The Lady Bulldogs soccer team opened the regular season with their inaugural home tournament last week, getting one win, two draws and two losses, finishing in seventh place. Yoakum 3, Hallettsville 0 The Lady ‘Dogs played Hallettsville in pool play and bracket play.

Yoakum went 0-2 last week in district games at Hallettsville and Tidehaven. Hallettsville 56, Yoakum 30 The Brahmas took a 10-2 lead in the first frame and cruised to a 56-30 win over Yoakum Jan. 3. The Brahmas led 19-14 at halftime after a 12-9 Yoakum run in the second.

The Lady Bulldogs dropped two district road games last week against Hallettsville and Tidehaven. Hallettsville 52, Yoakum 42 Destiny Rios scored 14 points and Jayana Phillips bagged another 11 as Yoakum came up short to the Lady Brahmas after a second-half Hallettsville rally.

The Lady Bulldogs hosted their Holiday Classic Tournament last week and won two of three games to take third place.

The Yoakum Bulldogs basketball team won three of five games in the Bloomington Tournament last week. Yoakum 42, Victoria St. Joseph 34 The Bulldogs got 11 points from Xavier Barnett to open the tournament on Wednesday with a 42-34 win over Victoria St. Joseph.
