HISD board sets tax rate

The Hallettsville ISD Board of Trustees met in a special called meeting Monday and approved the proposed tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year.By a unanimous vote of the board, it set the rate at $0.874262 cents per $100 valuation, which includes a maintenance and operation (M&O) rate of $0.

Peters appointed to new judicial court

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Columbus attorney and municipal judge Leonard Peters to serve as judge of the 492nd Judicial District Court. That served Colorado and Lavaca counties.Peters’ appointment will become effective Sept. 1. He will serve through Dec.

SH Parish Fall picnic set Sept. 6

Authorities nab pair of wanted sex offenders

Last week, the Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office demonstrated the value of strong law enforcement partnerships by capturing two wanted sex offenders from the county.On Thursday, Aug. 20 in two separate operations, authorities were able to lo cate and arrested Andrew Clinton King and Travis Bingham.
