County burn ban lifted

The county-wide burn ban that was implemented on Monday, Oct. 23 at the Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court meeting lasted only one week with County Judge Keith Mudd issuing an executive order Wednesday, Nov. 1 to lift the ban.

Yoakum Bulldogs gets first district win

The Yoakum Bulldogs hosted the Hempstead Bobcats on Oct. 27 and were victorious 35-0 giving them their first district win of the season.

Hannah Bordovsky named new YACC president

The Yoakum Area Chamber of Commerce (YACC) recently announced its new president, Hannah Bordovsky. Bordovsky assumed the position on Monday, Oct. 16, and is looking forward to the new opportunity. “I am ecstatic to be here. I grew up here and graduated from Yoakum High School in 2015.

Hallettsville Garden Club meeting

A very interesting Comprehensive Study on Wildflower Seeds was presented at the Oct. 19 meeting of the Hallettsville Garden Club by Sharon Harrigan. Wildflowers attract hummingbirds, butterflies and pollinators. The fall of the year, ideally by the end of November, is the best planting time.

How drought affects wildlife

In the aftermath of the drought, hunters in Lavaca and DeWitt County are encouraged to hunt bright and early. “For Lavaca County, this has been the second hottest summer on the record.

Hallettsville native to run in NYC Marathon

The running of the 52nd New York City Marathon will take place this Sunday (Nov. 5) and one of over 45 thousand runners taking part will be Hallettsville native, Amy Grindeland.

Time to return to standard time

It’s time to move our clocks back one hour with Daylight Saving Time beginning during the pre-dawn hours Sunday morning, Nov. 5. The official change to standard time takes place at 2 a.m., but you are recommended to set your clocks back one hour before retiring for the night on Saturday evening.
