Trunk or Treat events held throughout the city

It’s that time of the year when trick or treaters will be this coming Tuesday, Oct. 31 and motorists as well as those out trick or treating are reminded to take extra precaution in being safe while out enjoying Halloween activities.

Early voting has begun

Early voting on 14 Texas constitutional amendments started Monday, Oct. 23 and will continue through Friday, Nov. 3. All early voting takes place at the Lavaca County Courthouse Annex located at 412 N. Texana in Hallettsville.

Angie Decou named Middle School Teacher of the Year for the Diocese of Victoria

Shiner Catholic School would like to congratulate Angie Decou on a very special award that she recently received from Bishop Cahill. Last year, the Diocese of Victoria Office of Catholic Schools launched a Teacher of the Year award.

SISD school board discusses district improvement plan

Shiner ISD school board members discussed information regarding the district’s improvement plan for the 2023-24 school year at the Oct. 16th school board meeting. “There are several primary additions that we have for the improvement plan,” Superintendent Alex Remschel said.

Manhunt ensues after DeWitt County shooting

Two men remain at large following shooting incident that occurred early Sunday in Yorktown, DeWitt County Sheriff Carl Bowen reported. At approximately 7:42 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, a DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office deputy was flagged down at 342 E. Main St.

Moulton ISD is in the process of buying a couple of buses. The board reviewed a couple of purchase options at its meeting Wednesday, Oct. 11. Board members were weighing either buying one travel bus or two gas-powered route buses.

M+14 Cookoff 2023 has another fine turnout

The Meisetschleager family held its annual M+14 Cookoff at Moulton City Park on Saturday, Oct. 14. The event has so far raised a total of $60,800 in scholarships that have been paid out to 68 Moulton High school graduates since its inception in 2019.

Yoakum City Council approved the purchase of several necessities when the council met Tuesday, Oct. 10. One of the purchases included a new patrol vehicle costing $71,500 for the Yoakum Police Department.
