Moulton welcomes Robert Nieto as new American Legion Commander

A local veteran, Robert Nieto, was named as the new commander of American Legion Post 392 in Moulton. He’s been the new commander for several months now“We’re a small group, we have less than 50 members,” Nieto said. “I’ve been doing a lot of recruiting and trying to get some younger ones in.

Local schools to hold Veterans Day events

Several school districts in the area are preparing for Veterans Day programs on Monday, Nov. 11.The Yoakum Junior High School will be having a Veterans Day program the morning of Veterans Day.“We are planning on a having a presentation,” Yoakum Junior High Principal Gabe Adamek said.

Local man reminds others of the importance of Veterans Day

Veterans Day is next Monday, and a local Vietnam Veteran, Larry Kupka, is a strong advocate for the importance of that day.“Veterans Day is a day that shows honor to folks that volunteered to serve their country,” Kupka said.

October ties 90 year old record with zero rain

Zero rain fell in October, tying a 90 year old record set in 1934. The month fell short of its normal average of 4.37 inches and took over as the year’s driest.October is one of the wettest months of the year and the total lack of precip has put the area in severe drought.

Sunday fire burns 8 acres in northern Lavaca County

Firefighters from the Hallettsville VFD were called Sunday afternoon regarding a report of a fire occurring in the 962 block of CR 216.According to a report from HVFD chief Stephen Grahmann, the call on the fire came in around at 1:08 p.m.
The Hallettsville woman held hostage by a wanted fugitive inside her own home back in 2022 traveled with her family to Austin Thursday, Oct. 10, to personally thank DPS Staff Sgt. Mina Gadelkarim, whose decisive actions that day played a huge part in her walking away from the events that unfolded that particular Sunday afternoon.
