September a hot, dry month

September became the year’s driest month with just 0.37 of an inch falling on six days. Many above normal high temperatures also added to the building drought in the area. No measurable precip has fallen since Sept. 18th when 0.03 of an inch was recorded.Rainfall records include 15.

HVFD answers to fires

The Hallettsville Volunteer Fire Department answered to a couple of fires this past week with one involving a grass fire and the other a tractor.According to a report from HVFD chief Stephen Grahmann, HVFD was called to a fire on Thursday, Oct. 3 around 6:45 p.m.

Celebrating community

Hallettsville joined 410 Texas cities on Tuesday, October 1st. Texas had the largest participation of cities in the event.National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.

Hallettsville Bond Part Four

A small group of Hallettsville Independent School District voters attended last Wednesday evening’s (Oct. 2) town hall meeting regarding the bond proposed by the district concerning the construction of a new gymnasium/multi-purpose facility.

Moulton Chamber of Commerce interested in park improvements

The Moulton City Council continued its ongoing discussion about potential improvements to the park at the Sept. 10 meeting.The Moulton Chamber of Commerce is interested in assisting in the park improvement project. Chamber President Anna Bartos attended the council meeting speaking on this.

Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 6-12 and this year’s theme is “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you”.The Hallettsville Volunteer Fire Department is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in promoting the week.
At the Monday, Sept. 23 Commissioners’ Court meeting, the court approved a proclamation designating Tuesday, Oct. 1 as Kids’ Health Party in the county.
