Barbara Joann Smith Tise went to her heavenly home, rejoicing, on May 22, 2023. She loved the Lord and lived her life to let His light shine in her!   She was born Nov. 5, 1937, in Eagle Lake to Henry Bertice and Milly Matula Smith.

Dorothy Fajkus Jasek, age 82, of Houston, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Julius Joseph Jasek Jr.; her parents, Joe Fajkus Jr. and Agnes Stryk Fajkus.

Evelyn Marie Opela

Evelyn Marie Opela, 92, of Shiner, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.  She was born Oct. 15, 1930 in Sweet Home to James and Mary (Cervenka) Pekar. Evelyn worked at Weingarten’s, and retired from Circle Y of Yoakum after 20 years of service.

Charles Henry Christ

Charles Henry Christ passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.   Charles was born on Oct. 16, 1935 in Hallettsville, and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School where he was a member of the school’s first band.

Carletta Jean Taylor

Carletta Jean Taylor, 95, of Hallettsville,  joined her heavenly family, Thursday, May 18, 2023.  She was born Jan. 4, 1928 in East St. Louis, Illinois to Eugene and Loretta (Durney) Stanley. She met her beloved Charles Taylor and married Sept. 10, 1945 in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Donal Wayne Johnson

Donal Wayne Johnson, 83, of Hallettsville, left this world on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.   He was born in Robstown on Jan. 13, 1940, the oldest son of the late Wayne Stafford and Evelyn Claudine Johnson. Don is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Judy King Johnson, and daughter, Suzanne J.

Claudia Vancura

Claudia Beal Vancura, 73, of Shiner, passed away on May 19, 2023 after a brief battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time she passed. Claudia was born on July 21, 1949, in Shiner, to Lawrence “Speedy” and Joyce Stock Beal. She was the oldest of five children.

Dolores Ann “Dody” Green (nee Slovak) passed away peacefully in Tomball on May 2, 2023 after battling lingering illnesses. Dody was raised in El Campo and also lived in Nada, before marrying her soul mate, Lews “Eddy” Green on April 22, 1957.  She was most recently a member of St.

RoseLee McKay

RoseLee Schmidt McKay, 97, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2023.   She was born November 7, 1925, in Shiner, as the only child of Edmund and Flora Gerdes Schmidt. She was baptized March 14, 1926, at United Dr. Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Shiner.  RoseLee was confirmed March 24, 1940, at U.D.M.L.C.
