On Point Barbecue brings home another big win

Shiner’s Justin and Karen Fortune, pictured above with their Reserve Championship Award, brought home several top awards for their competition barbecue cookoff team, On Point Barbecue, after they traveled to Victoria’s inaugural Sombrero Festival held last weekend at that town.

Shiner Volunteer Fire Department BBQ dinner fundraiser Sept. 18

A busy summer fighting fires and answering calls all around our area has them needing to get together for a good old fashioned barbecue fundraiser to lift some spirits and raise some needed funds for the Shiner Fire Department. They’ll be getting together bright and early Sunday, Sept.

Shiner High School Homecoming court

The Shiner High School Homecoming festivities will be held on Friday, September 9 at half-time, at which time the Homecoming Queen will be crowned. Shiner will play Poth starting at 7:30 p.m.

The most distinguished tramp

I would imagine that we’ve all seen the graffiti that adorns many structures in this country. Most of it is just the work of folks who evidently have too much time on their hands and in my opinion; there isn’t much of it that could be considered a work of art.

Still Kicking

While much of the Lavaca County community may recognize Henry Joe Jasek for his persistent optimism and personable charm, many staff members at the Hallettsville Publishing Co. know him best for breaking out in song or dance at local newspaper offices for the past six decades.

4-H enrollment is open

It is time to re-enroll in 4-H.   4-H is the largest youth serving organization in the United States.  Open to all youth who are at least eight years old and in the third grade through eighteen years of age, 4-H has something for everybody.
