Yoakum Baseball:Zaruba to play in two all-star games this month

Yoakum graduate Connor Zaruba will get a couple of more high school games later this month before heading off to college. The pitcher/infielder has been selected to play in the Coastal Bend All-Star Game on June 12 in Corpus Christi.

Yoakum’s Moore one of several county residents to help officiate UIL Class 3A state softball tournament

Yoakum’s E.L. Moore has been officiating both softball and baseball games for a long time. He has actually been calling games for nearly 50 years, starting around 1972 as a high school senior.

Yoakum Baseball: Zaruba, Goode win 28-3A All-District MVP award

Connor Zaruba and Brayden Goode were chosen as 28-3A Co-MVP to lead Yoakum’s All-District awards. The Bulldog coaching staff of Karl Saenz, Kyle Foster, Spencer Brandt and Gary Garvin were chosen as Coaching Staff of the Year.

Yoakum Basketball: Yoakum cagers to play in All-Star game

Four Yoakum basketball players will play in an All-Star game next month. Lady Bulldog players Brooklin Berger and Taylor Hlavac, and Bulldog players Isaiah Bordovsky and Calder Peagler will take part in the 3rd Lace ‘Em Up All-Star Game June 4 at the Schulenburg High School new gym.

Yoakum Track and Field: Sprint-relay team earns third place

The Yoakum boys track team had two relay teams compete in the UIL state  meet Thursday at Mike A. Meyers Stadium in Austin. The Bulldogs brought a medal back to Yoakum. The 400-meter relay team of Jayden Jones, Cavan Smith, Qyion Williams and KaDarius Price won a Bronze medal with a time of 42.

Yoakum Baseball: Vikings rally to win area round 2-1 against Bulldogs

Yoakum needed some extra time to win the first game of its area-round series against Lago Vista Friday at Rattle Field in San Marcos. The Vikings came back on Saturday to win the Game No. 2 by a couple of runs and then turned up the heat with a 16-0 run rule in the tiebreaker.

Yoakum softball: Columbus nudges Yoakum out of postseason

The Lady Bulldogs ecstatic  run in the playoffs ended last week with a close-contested series with  district rival Columbus 2-0 (2-1, 9-7) in Weimar. In both games, Columbus had to rally, including overcoming a four-run deficit in the seventh inning of the second game.

Softball to face Columbus; baseball to battle Lago Vista

The Yoakum softball and baseball teams have their respective playoff games set for this week. Softball The Lady Bulldogs play Columbus in the regional quarterfinals best-of-three series. All games will be played in Weimar. Game one will be 7 p.m. Thursday (tomorrow).
