Shiner grad Cameron Cowan had an outstanding junior season of 2023 for University of Houston-Victoria softball team. She earned Pitcher of the Week three separate times and set the UHV record in shutouts while also posting a career best wins with 17.

Yoakum Golf Association hosted a camp June 26-28 with a tournament on the third day. The camp had a total of 45 kids, from Shiner, Yoakum, Moulton and Hallettsville. 7th and under (four holes): 1st, Sam Sofka, 27;  2nd, Kierstyn Kuter, 28.
