Yoakum ISD requests Voter Approved Tax Rate Election

The Yoakum Independent School District (YISD) is requesting a Voter Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE) to fund employee pay increases.A VATRE is an election required to be held when the district adopts a tax rate that exceeds the amount allowed by the state.

Local school student enrollment numbers reported

The 2024-25 school year started recently, with the Yoakum Independent School District and Sweet Home ISD and other schools reporting their student enrollment numbers.For Yoakum ISD, a total of 176 students enrolled in the Primary Annex School.

Bulldog Baseball complex updates provided at Yoakum ISD meeting

New preliminary pricing for the upcoming Bulldog Baseball complex was revealed at the Yoakum ISD meeting on Aug. 12. Buildings construction updates were provided.Prices are still to be determined for the audio system in the press box as well as the bleacher covers.

Tips for being safe in school zones

As summer vacation comes to an end for students, the 2024-25 school year will beginning for area schools with some starting this week and the remainder next week.Whether a motorist, student or pedestrian, school zone safety is of utmost importance as the new school year starts.

Yoakum High School receives $25,000 grant for digital sign

The Yoakum High School Student Council soon will install a new marquee in front of Yoakum High School thanks to a $25,000 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and the City of Yoakum.

YISD receives construction updates

The Yoakum ISD received additional updates on the construction of both the baseball and softball field as well as other projects at the July 8 board meeting.Board members had to decide on a couple of factors that Weaver and Jacobs Constructors Inc. plan to implement.
